3,500 Scouts, 10+ countries, Special Guests = 1 amazing celebration.
This week, Red Rose 2024 has hosted thousands of Scouts and Guides from the UK and overseas at Westmorland Showground, near Kendal.
Throughout the week, the Scouts have created memories and had life-changing adventures, camping, living and working together, and making new friendships while participating in the most adventurous Red Rose yet! It has been an unforgettable celebration experience on an international scale from West Lancs Scouts.
Today, 3,500 Scouts from nearly every part of the UK and 10 countries joined in celebrating the Closing Ceremony of Red Rose 2024 in the Lake District.
After years of planning, preparation, and anticipation, Scouts from all over the UK and from 10+ countries arrived in The Lake District to experience a trip of their lifetime after a spectacular opening ceremony that started the adventure. A sea of young people making new friends, laughing and celebrating from the main stage could be seen. A rainbow of flags from the UK to the Isle of Man, Ireland to Norway, and Ghana to Georgia could be seen waving proudly in peace and harmony.
Stella Lewis, 13, from 1st Hoghton Scout Group, added, “It’s been awesome. I’ve tried so many activities. I’ve never done Via Ferrata or crossing a massive gap via rope swing at Honister Slate Mine, but give it a go because if it’s not at Red Rose, when? I enjoyed learning about traditional crafts, like dry stone walling in the Global Zone. I’ve loved every minute of Red Rose and all the new friends.”
Chief Scout Bear Grylls said “That while many people know that Scouting is all about adventure, they often need to realise that adult volunteers get to do just as much as our young members do through their involvement. Red Rose 2024 is a great example of this. Nearly 4,000 Scouts from across the UK are meeting others from around the world and taking part in fantastic adventures. That is why I love Scouting so much!”
This year’s international adventure – Red Rose 2024, marks a significant milestone and celebration for West Lancashire Scouts, who have enabled and empowered young people to gain valuable Skills for Life for over 50 years; reaching over 10,000 young people across Lancashire every week. West Lancs Scouts also celebrates 70 years of their home campsite this year. Located within the heart of the Forest of Bowland at Waddecar Scout Activity Centre, the campsite has played a part in this year’s event, hosting dozens of activities, supported by Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team and the Army to name a few.
West Lancs Scouts also have an ambitious growth plan for a new activity centre at Waddecar. Read more here
