Climbing Wall

Our indoor climbing wall provides a high adrenalin activity that’s sure to entertain whatever the weather. We have several routes on the wall, with everything from slight slopes to an overhang, we also have an abseil station at the top of one of the routes. Use of the wall includes use of our equipment; including helmets, harnesses and ropes. We have in-situ ropes on all the routes on the wall. We also have two anchor weight bags for belayers who are belaying a climber heavier than themselves. Our selection of harnesses includes traditional sit harnesses and full body harnesses for the younger climbers.

We have a total of 8 ropes, which can be used simultaneously – subject to adequate instructor coverage. As a guide, each rope will require its own trained instructor or competent belayer (and a qualified supervising instructor). Each rope in use can be used by between 1 and 3 participants in rotation (one at a time climbing whilst the others belay).

In summary: For a one hour session for beginners, we would recommend no more than 12 climbers to give them all a fair chance. The greater the length of time allowed or the lower the number of climbers the more they will get to climb.

This activity can be run self-help in accordance with Scouts P.O.R. Rule 9.34 – you will need to supply your own qualified instructors to run this activity.

Information on running Climbing as a Scouts Activity can be found on the web site.

Why not enquire about running a programme of climbing sessions for your Scouts to gain their Climber Activity Badge.
