Following the arson attack in July 2010 and 19 months of amazing fundraising efforts, Fylde Scouts have began building their new Headquarters at Heyhouses Lane in St Annes.
For the last 2 months J Wareing & Son (Wrea Green) Ltd. have been constructing an impressive steel framework. The building will be finished this summer and there will be 12,000 visible bricks on view to the exterior of the building. The interior walls will be constructed of 15,000 breeze blocks.
In true Scouting fashion everyone including the public can contribute to a piece of this incredible venture by taking part in the ‘Buy-a-Brick’ Appeal: choose the number of bricks, donate £10 per brick and in return the names will be entered into the roll of honour which will be on permanent display in the new building.
Ever since the 1970’s Fylde Scouts have operated a campsite and training facilities in these grounds, which over the last 40 some years have benefited many thousands of children throughout the Fylde area and beyond.
in the Fylde District of which the majority are children between 6 and 18 years and are coming from Lytham, St Annes, Warton, Freckleton, Kirkham, Wesham and Clifton.
The dormitories in the new building and the adjacent campsite will cater for young people not only in Scouting, but also for many other youth organizations, such as Guides, Brownies, Boys and Girls Brigades, Church Youth Groups, etc.
Facilities include camping, indoor climbing, archery, 5-a-side football and all aspects of Scout Training within the 2.5 acres of woodland and a further 2.5 acres of camping grounds that guarantee great adventures, challenges and fun.
To complete the project a further £29,000 are urgently needed. “If £39,000 can be fundraised, then the much desired Water Harvesting System can be installed that collects rain water from the roof into a huge tank and the water will be used to flush all the toilets within the building. This scheme would maintain the overall focus on a modern and environmentally friendly construction that certainly fits the 21st Century,” said Geoff Currie from the Fundraising Committee.
The new Headquarters will give young people the opportunity to build great friendships, increase their confidence, feel included, valued and trusted. In short, these are the building blocks that help young people to grow into reputable adults.
